Baseball Game Preview: Laguna Creek Cardinals vs. Sheldon Huskies

For the second straight game, Laguna Creek will face off against Sheldon. The Cardinals will welcome the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Laguna Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Laguna Creek and Sheldon had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Cardinals never let the Huskies get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Wednesday. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Dom Rivera looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Laguna Creek's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is undefeated (and 9-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Julian Pogue-Jasper was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Laguna Creek is undefeated when Pogue-Jasper posts two or more runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Sam Stires was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Laguna Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Laguna Creek pushed their record up to 12-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sheldon, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
