Football Recap: Acalanes Starts Season with Win at Home

Acalanes took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs 33-12. This was payback for the Dons, who suffered a 22-17 loss the last time these two teams met.

Finley Rivera was nothing short of spectacular: he picked up 158 receiving yards and one TD. Those 158 receiving yards gave him a new career-high. Josh Elerts was in the mix as well, providing Acalanes with two touchdowns.

Acalanes didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Archbishop Mitty to a completion percentage of just 20%. The Dons weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 57.7%.

Acalanes didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Grant Ricker. Another thorn in Archbishop Mitty's side was Deonte Littlejohn, who picked up two sacks and made seven total tackles.

When it comes to explaining why Archbishop Mitty lost, don't look at Lazaro Faraj-Washington. Despite the final result, he rushed for 123 yards.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Acalanes will host Menlo-Atherton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Archbishop Mitty, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Wilcox at 7:00 p.m.
