Football Recap: Max Hembrey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grant Community over Lakes

Grant Community blew Lakes out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Lakes got their revenge. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 20-18. The Bulldogs gained 185 more yards on the day, but it was the Eagles that made the best use of them.

Grant Community's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Max Hembrey, who picked up 195 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Hembrey really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 77 yards. Matthew Gipson was another key player, having thrown for 287 yards and two touchdowns.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Logan Myers for the heroic effort on defense: he. Grant Community's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.1.

Having lost for the first time this season, Grant Community fell to 2-1. As for Lakes, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
