            Baseball Recap: South Spartans vs. West Vikings        
        
		
        
        
            After having lost a blowout in their  previous game against Exeter, South was happy to have turned things around  on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a  win as the  team sidled past the West Vikings  10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  victory the Spartans have posted  since March 18th.

  Joel Gutierrez was a standout: he scored three  runs and  stole two bases while  getting on base  in all four of his plate appearances. Those  two  stolen bases gave  him a new career-high.  Josh Encinas also deserves some recognition as  he  launched his first  home run of the season.
South's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for West, they have  traveled a rocky road recently, having  lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record  this season.
 South will face off against Woodlake at 3:30  p.m.  on Wednesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.9  runs per game this season. As for West, they will take on Riverdale in a tournament  on Wednesday. The Cowboys have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.79  runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
