High school girls basketball: Longest active win streak in every state

By Kevin Askeland Nov 6, 2025, 2:30pm

Johnston of Iowa owns the nation's longest win streak at 55, closing in on state record.

Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis, Mo.) began the 2024-25 high school girls basketball season with one of the longest win streaks in the nation. While the Red Knights had that run come to an end, they are still the active win streak leader in Missouri heading into the 2025-26 season.

After seeing its streak of 131-straight wins end, Incarnate Word Academy rattled off 15 straight wins and ended the season with their eighth straight state championship.

The 15 straight wins ties Incarnate Word Academy with Chadwick for the longest active streak in Missouri, featured in our list below highlighting the top active girls basketball win streaks in each state heading into the 2025-26 season.

Johnston (Iowa) begins the season with the longest win streak in the nation at 55 wins in a row. The Dragons have won back-to-back state championships, going 29-0 in 2023-24 and 26-0 in 2024-25.

Bedford (N.H.) and O'Gorman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) were the only other two teams to finish undefeated the past two seasons. Bedford went 25-0 and 24-0 and is No. 2 behind Johnston with 49 straight wins. O'Gorman had back-to-back 24-0 seasons and is No. 3 with 48 straight wins.

Johnston has a chance to break the state record for consecutive wins with six victories to start the season. The Dragons can break the record of now-closed Gamavilla, which had 60 straight wins from 1951 to 1954 while playing 6-on-6 basketball.

Hanalani (Mililani, Hawaii) also has a chance to break the state record for consecutive wins. It needs eight wins to top the record of 29 by Konawaena (Kealakekua) from 2016-17. Tongue River (Dayton), with 34 straight wins, can break the Wyoming state record of 48 by East (Cheyenne) from 2021 to 2023.
