Basketball Recap: Hialeah-Miami Lakes Takes a Loss

Hialeah-Miami Lakes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 73-37 defeat at the hands of the American Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 734th, while the Patriots are ranked 196th).

Angel Torres was his usual excellent self, going 9 of 10 en route to 21 points for American. Torres continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Garcia, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points and four steals.

Hialeah-Miami Lakes' loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for American, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hialeah-Miami Lakes won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hialeah Gardens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hialeah Gardens is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season. As for American, they and Carol City will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
