Baseball Game Preview: Lutheran Lions vs. Discovery Canyon Thunder

For the second straight game, Lutheran will face off against Discovery Canyon. The Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Thunder at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Lutheran has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Lutheran took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Discovery Canyon 5-4. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Thunder: they've now won five in a row.

Ian Stephenitch looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Connor Sanders was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Lutheran pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Discovery Canyon, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lutheran has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Discovery Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
