Softball Recap: Granger Victorious

Granger hadn't done well against Kearns recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Granger walked away with a 10-6 victory over Kearns. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lancers.

Mackenzie Salazar was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Salazar wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Granger kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for Granger: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.

Granger's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-8. As for Kearns, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Granger will host Alta at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Granger is facing Alta at the right time seeing as Alta is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Kearns, they will welcome Cyprus at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Kearns' pitchers better be ready for this one: Cyprus has averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
