Baseball Recap: Mcdowell Wins Going Away Against Owen

McDowell was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Owen on Wednesday. McDowell was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Owen. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Hayden Shelton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because McDowell is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise. Shelton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, Kyson Rinnert was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Zack Woody was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

McDowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Owen only posted a batting average of .261.

McDowell's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-6. As for Owen, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, McDowell will venture away from home to square off against Erwin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Erwin has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Owen, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Avery County at 5:00 p.m. Avery County will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
