Softball Recap: Swain County Takes a Loss

Swain County was the 5-0 winner over Hiwassee Dam when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Swain County Maroon Devils fell just short of the Hiwassee Dam Eagles by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Maroon Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Rylee Rawls spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Swain County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hadley Shuler, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Swain County and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

While they had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
