Recap: Fike Demons vs. C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons
The Fike Demons entered their tilt with the C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. Fike skirted past C.B. Aycock 38-36. Given Fike's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while C.B. Aycock is ranked 305th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fike's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emory Skinner led the charge by scoring 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jewel Brewington, who scored nine points.
When it comes to explaining why C.B. Aycock lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bree Jones. Despite the final result, she scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Zakayla Sanders was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five assists and three steals.
Fike's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3. As for C.B. Aycock, their loss dropped their record down to 9-12.
Fike won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Smithfield-Selma at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. Smithfield-Selma comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last 17 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for C.B. Aycock, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Johnston at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully C.B. Aycock focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
