Football Recap: Cardinal Mooney Starts off Right with Win over True North Classical Academy

Cardinal Mooney took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the True North Classical Academy Titans 41-14. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Titans are ranked 148th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cardinal Mooney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Davin Davidson led the charge by throwing for 153 yards and one touchdown while completing 88.9% of his passes, and also punching in one TD on the ground. Those 153 passing yards gave Davidson a new career-high. 93 of Davidson's passing yards were hauled in by Kymistrii Young, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Another reason for the win was Cardinal Mooney's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Elijah Golden with two. Cardinal Mooney received some extra help from MacAiden Brown, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Coming up, Cardinal Mooney will be playing in front of their home fans against Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for True North Classical Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Bishop Verot at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
