Softball Recap: Hilltop Makes It Nine in a Row on the Road

Hilltop entered their tilt with Edon on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Bombers 14-1. Considering the Cadets have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Giada Rising made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsy Connolly, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three doubles. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kenley Routt, who scored four runs while going 4-for-5.

Hilltop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .452 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Hilltop pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Edon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Hilltop will challenge Montpelier at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cadets 3.2, the Locomotives 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Edon, they are taking a road trip to challenge Paulding at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
