Basketball Recap: Spring Valley Takes a Loss

Spring Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lugoff-Elgin Demons. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Demons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Despite the defeat, Spring Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kensley Parks posted 11 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Parks a new career-high in assists (four). Levon Smith was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Lugoff-Elgin found their leader in sophomore Oliver Coleman, who scored 12 points and six boards. Coleman continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Mumford, who had six points and seven steals.

Spring Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Lugoff-Elgin, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.

Spring Valley has already played their next game, a 77-57 defeat against Blythewood on the 28th. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-46 loss against Atlantic Collegiate Academy on the 18th.
