Softball Recap: Brandon's Undefeated Season over After 14 Games

Brandon fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Petal on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5. The loss was the Bulldogs' first of the season.

Dakota Davis spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chloe Jenkins and Hannah Jo Sullivan stepped up to the plate in a big way. Jenkins scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Sullivan scored a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Jenkins has posted since back in February.

Having lost for the first time this season, Brandon fell to 13-1. As for Petal, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brandon will head out to face off against Pearl at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brandon's pitchers better be ready for this one: Pearl has averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Petal, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Petal Panthers challenge Meridian Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
