Softball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Blue Ridge's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

Blue Ridge hadn't done well against Arcola recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Knights had just enough and edged out the Purple Riders 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since April 10, 2024.

Ellie Schlieper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Karlee Fenton was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Addison Roos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Blue Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive games.

Blue Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Arcola, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.

Looking ahead, Blue Ridge is taking a road trip to take on Fisher at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Arcola, they will challenge Urbana at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Purple Riders are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
