Baseball Recap: Schuyler County Starts off Right with Win over Highland

Schuyler County took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They put the hurt on the Highland Cougars with a sharp 10-2 win. This was payback for the Rams, who suffered a 12-8 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gage Brownell was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Brownell was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elliot Sevits, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Brody Weaver, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Schuyler County will square off against Clark County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Highland, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Highland Cougars take on Scotland County Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
