Recap: Yantis Owls vs. Hawkins Hawks

It was a good run, but the Yantis Owls unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to Hawkins 68-64. While losing is never fun, Yantis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 593rd, while Hawkins is ranked 97th).

Yantis' loss came despite strong showings from Brant Harville and CJ Madison. Harville scored 18 points, while Madison scored 18 points. Madison scored a full 28.1% of Yantis' points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Lopez, who scored 10 points.

Derek Hollman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hawkins, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds. The match was Hollman's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brayden Givens, who scored 13 points.

Yantis' loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Hawkins, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yantis will take on Como-Pickton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Como-Pickton is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Hawkins' road trip will continue as they head out to face Hughes Springs at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th.
