Volleyball Recap: Green Valley Falls Short Against Ranked Coronado

Green Valley faced Coronado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Gators took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The Gators have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 22-25, 25-13, 25-14.

Zechariah Nissley paced Green Valley's offense, picking up 12 kills. Nissley got some help from Jeremiah Nissley and his 27 assists. Jeremiah was also a major player on defense: he and Preston Whiting shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with two each.

Coronado's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was THOMAS ROWLEY, who had 14 digs and two assists. Those 14 digs gave ROWLEY a new career-high.

Green Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 14-18. As for Coronado, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 30-2.

Coming up, Green Valley will welcome Sierra Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Coronado, they will head out to challenge Palo Verde at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
