Basketball Recap: Bentley Takes a Loss

Bentley was the 47-46 winner over Cornerstone Christian when they last played one another back in January of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The Bentley Phoenix came up short against the Cornerstone Christian Cougars on Thursday, falling 63-42. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 638th, while the Cougars are ranked 186th).

Cornerstone Christian found their leader in sophomore Benjamin Lukacs, who posted 20 points and five steals. Lukacs is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Stewart, who put up 16 points and three blocks.

Bentley has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Cornerstone Christian, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bentley will venture away from home to challenge Athenian at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bentley is facing Athenian at the right time seeing as Athenian is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cornerstone Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Head-Royce at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cornerstone Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.9 points per game this season.
