Baseball Recap: Pike Road Falls Short of Gulf Shores in the Playoffs

Pike Road and Gulf Shores squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Pike Road had to settle for second. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dolphins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dolphins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on Friday.

Pike Road got a good showing from Hunter Matthes, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Matthes is becoming a predictor of the Patriots' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 10-20 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Runner Stripling was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Pike Road's defeat dropped their record down to 13-21. As for Gulf Shores, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-12-1.

As of now, neither Pike Road nor the Dolphins have any future games scheduled.
