Basketball Recap: Arion Palacol Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Stanwood

Marysville Getchell won the last time they faced Stanwood and things went their way on Friday too. Marysville Getchell rang in the new year with a 65-55 victory over the Stanwood Spartans. Given Marysville Getchell's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Stanwood is ranked 242nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marysville Getchell got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Arion Palacol out in front who went 7 of 14 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds. The game was Palacol's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Rice, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cole Williams, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points and eight assists. Jett Brager was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points.

The victory made it two in a row for Marysville Getchell and bumps their season record up to 7-4. As for Stanwood, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

Marysville Getchell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-54 win against Lakewood on the 8th. As for Stanwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-59 victory against Cascade on the 7th.
