Softball Recap: Sherwood Marksmen vs. Montrose Blue Jays

Sherwood's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Montrose Blue Jays 9-8. That's more bragging rights for the Marksmen, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kalli Gariepy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered eight runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sherwood got a big performance out of Heidi Doores, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. What's more, Doores also racked up three hits, the mostshe's had since back in September. Avery Dalton was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Sherwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sherwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-17 record this season. As for Montrose, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-10.

Sherwood is on the road again on Thursday to play Hartville at 5:00 p.m. Montrose does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
