Baseball Game Preview: McMinn Central Chargers vs. Giles County Bobcats

The McMinn Central Chargers will challenge the Giles County Bobcats at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Giles County will be up against a hot McMinn Central team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. McMinn Central came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Sweetwater. The four-run effort marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Zac Derrick made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Derrick was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Derrick wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ayden Plemons, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Giles County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Loretto 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bobcats have posted since April 25, 2024.

McMinn Central pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Giles County, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
