Preview: Cherry Creek Bruins vs. Ralston Valley Mustangs
Cherry Creek is 6-0 against Ralston Valley since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Cherry Creek Bruins will square off against the Ralston Valley Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Cherry Creek sitting on 16 straight wins dating back to last season and Ralston Valley on five.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cherry Creek walked away with it. They really took it to the Golden Eagles for the full four quarters, racking up a 51-24 victory on the road. The result was nothing new for Cherry Creek, who have now won nine matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Jordan Herron continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 124 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Tyson Mauck was in the mix as well, providing Cherry Creek with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Ralston Valley faced Pine Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went Ralston Valley's way against Pine Creek on Friday as Ralston Valley made off with a 28-3 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Ralston Valley just coasted through the last quarter.
Among those leading the charge was Brady Weldon, who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Madden, who threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Cherry Creek to 12-0 and Mountain Vista to 9-3.
Cherry Creek took their victory against Ralston Valley in their previous matchup back in August by a conclusive 35-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cherry Creek since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
