Football Recap: Hazlehurst Takes a Loss

After flying high against Port Gibson two weeks ago, Hazlehurst came back down to earth. The Indians fell just short of the Franklin County Bulldogs by a score of 24-21 on Friday. Despite 123 more yards than the Bulldogs, the Indians couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, Hazlehurst still got an impressive performance from Brandon Haines, who rushed for 165 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries. Haines also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Indians are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Jayden Washington for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hazlehurst didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.8.

Armond Adams produced another solid effort picking up 125 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 33 yards for Franklin County. Those 33 rushing yards gave Adams a new career-high.

Hazlehurst's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Franklin County, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Coming up, Hazlehurst will look to defend their home field on Friday against Jefferson County at 7:00 p.m. As for Franklin County, they will head out to face off against Loyd Star at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Bulldogs' offense will have their work cut out for them.
