Basketball Recap: Shamar Gibbs' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Yulee over Wildwood

After flying high against Temple Christian Academy last Monday, Yulee came back down to earth. The Yulee Hornets fell 79-70 to the Wildwood Wildcats on Wednesday.

Yulee's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shamar Gibbs, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jycere Richardson, who made all 5 shots he took to post 10 points.

Wildwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Louis Brown, who went 5 of 6 en route to 15 points along with six boards and four steals. Brown is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Jyhren Coleman was another key player, going 6 of 7 on his way to 16 points.

Yulee dropped their record down to 6-4 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Wildwood, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Yulee and Lake Weir will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played. As for Wildwood, they and Trinity Catholic will face off at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played.
