Basketball Recap: Westside Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Westside Wolverines came up short against the Tocoi Creek Toros and fell 73-61. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while the Toros are ranked 48th).

Despite the loss, Westside still got an impressive performance from Jaylen Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 37.7% of Westside's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Kinard Life was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Westside's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Tocoi Creek, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season.

Westside won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Paxon School For Advanced Studies at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Tocoi Creek, they will head out on the road to face off against Episcopal School of Jacksonville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Tocoi Creek's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
