Baseball Recap: Pope John XXIII Takes a Loss

Pope John XXIII fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Montville on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 4-3. Pope John XXIII was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Montville apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Beckett Weeks was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Pope John XXIII saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Struble, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Pope John XXIII's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Montville, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-3 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Montville beat Pope John XXIII by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday.
