Football Recap: West Boca Raton Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

West Boca Raton fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Cardinal Newman on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 26-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crusaders. Despite 98 more yards than the Crusaders, the Bulls couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

When it comes to explaining why West Boca Raton lost, don't look at Javian Mallory. Despite the final result, he rushed for 168 yards and one TD while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and also caught one touchdown. Mallory showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 52 yards.

Leading Cardinal Newman to victory were Jyron Hughley and Phoenix Donghia. Hughley rushed for 127 yards and one score on only 13 carries, while Donghia rushed for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. Donghia has been hot recently, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.

West Boca Raton's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-2. As for Cardinal Newman, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2.

Looking ahead, West Boca Raton will welcome Palm Beach Gardens at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cardinal Newman, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bishop Verot at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Donghia and Macrae Thompson.
