Softball Game Preview: Archie Whirlwinds vs. Midway Vikings

The Archie Whirlwinds will take on the Midway Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Archie took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Lakeland as they made off with a 22-7 win. The victory continues a trend for the Whirlwinds in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won five in a row.

Archie got a massive performance out of Shelby Newport, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Newport a new career-high. Madison Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Archie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Midway's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They came up short against Crest Ridge, falling 25-10.

Kendall Goddard was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lannie Rambler, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

The win got Archie back to even at 2-2. As for Midway, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.

Archie took their victory against Midway in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 17-2 score. Do the Whirlwinds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
