Softball Recap: Pioneer's Win Ends 14-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Pioneer won the last time they faced Del Mar and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Dons. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Gina Scripoch made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gizelle Ortiz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Emmah Ramirez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Pioneer lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Pioneer's win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-13. As for Del Mar, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pioneer will welcome Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. As for Del Mar, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m.
