Basketball Recap: Madison Batts' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dinwiddie over Hopewell

Dinwiddie lost against Hopewell back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Dinwiddie Generals took a 55-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hopewell Blue Devils. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 91st).

Dinwiddie's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Batts, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Christiana Jones, who had nine points.

Hopewell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Erin Edmonds HV17, who earned 23 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Edmonds HV17 has scored at least a third of Hopewell's points. The team also got some help courtesy of April Winfield, who scored 14 points and three steals.

Dinwiddie has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Hopewell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.

Dinwiddie will head out on the road to square off against Powhatan at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Dinwiddie is facing Powhatan at the right time seeing as Powhatan is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Hopewell, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-38 victory against Colonial Heights on the 30th.
