Baseball Game Preview: St. Petersburg Green Devils vs. Hollins Royals

The St. Petersburg Green Devils will face off against the Hollins Royals at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Petersburg's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three contests, but Wednesday's match will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Tuesday, St. Petersburg didn't have quite enough to beat Northeast and fell 2-1.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hollins, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Largo 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Royals in their matchups with the Packers: they've now won three in a row.

Teagan Davies made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Riley McDonald was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Seven bases. while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julian Rosario, who scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Hollins' win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for St. Petersburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8-1.

St. Petersburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Hollins in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will St. Petersburg repeat their success, or does Hollins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
