Wake County HomeSchool let Jace Jones and Gabriel Ferrell run wild. Jones went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and five RBI, while Ferrell went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Jones has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times he's played. Isaac Ellington also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Wake County HomeSchool hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in eight consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Ravenscroft gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past American Leadership Academy-Johnston 16-5. With that win, the Ravens brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Matthew Hutter made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ravenscroft is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-5 otherwise. Hutter was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Matt Ulicny was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Ravenscroft's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Reed Holt, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, one run, and one double.
Wake County HomeSchool's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Ravenscroft, their record now sits at 5-6.
Wake County HomeSchool took their victory against Ravenscroft when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 14-7 score. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ravens turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
