Softball Game Preview: Franklin Wildcats vs. Waynesville Spartans

The Franklin Wildcats will take on the Waynesville Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Franklin has four straight victories, Waynesville has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Franklin earned a 6-1 win over Valley View.

The team relied heavily on Meredith Zehering, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Mikesell, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Franklin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least one batters in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Waynesville didn't have quite enough to beat Springboro on Thursday and fell 7-6.

Franklin's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Waynesville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Franklin couldn't quite get it done against Waynesville in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as they fell 9-6. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
