Football Recap: Saint Mary's Panthers vs. Vallejo Redhawks
A win for Saint Mary just wasn't in the cards on Saturday as the team wasn't able to take the lead at any point. They had to suffer through a 54-27 loss at the hands of the Vallejo Redhawks. Even though they lost, the Panthers' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 26 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Despite the loss, Saint Mary's had strong showings from Sutton Ralls, who threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns, and Sunni Scott, who picked up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Saint Mary's also got a significant boost from Khalil Chaney, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 87 yards.
Saint Mary's wouldn't let Vallejo keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force four fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Joseph Bryant, Emiliano Ceron, Mason Young, and Jason Rodriguez picked up one apiece.
Vallejo was led to victory by Sedrick Vaughn and David Buddha Bernstine Iii. Vaughn gained 280 total yards and five touchdowns, while Buddha Bernstine Iii threw for 400 yards and six touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes. Vaughn really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 72 yards.
This is the second loss in a row for Saint Mary's and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Vallejo, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
