Basketball Recap: Gray's Creek Comes Up Short

Gray's Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Lumberton Pirates and fell 69-28. The Bears were red-hot offensively heading into the match (they scored no less than 55 points in the three contests prior), but the Pirates' defense proved too tough.

Ezekiel Reed and Jalen Strickland certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Reed posted seven points, while Strickland earned two points. Reed is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 56% in the last five games he's played.

Lumberton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christopher Hammonds, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. Another player making a difference was Nate Lawson, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 15 points.

Gray's Creek's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Lumberton, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.

Gray's Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lumberton, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 80-58 victory against South View on the 18th.
