Baseball Game Preview: Boothbay Seahawks vs. Madison Bulldogs

Boothbay is 1-6 against Madison since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Seahawks will welcome the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m.

Lisbon hit Boothbay with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Seahawks fell just short of the Greyhounds by a score of 6-5.

Liam Jacobs was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. He has become a key player for Boothbay: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 1-4 otherwise. Jacobs was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Jacobs wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shawn Gamage, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Gamage is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Tyson French also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Madison, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They had just enough and edged out Maranacook 7-6 on Wednesday.

Xavier Estes was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Boothbay's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Madison, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 5-3.

Boothbay took their victory against Madison in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Seahawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
