Basketball Recap: Bethel Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against New Hope Academy National last Saturday, Bethel Academy came back down to earth. The Bethel Academy Blazers fell to the Evergreen Christian Eagles 68-62. While losing is never fun, the Blazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Eagles are ranked 17th).

It was another big night for Jafet Valencia, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards for Evergreen Christian. Sean Burke was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points and three steals.

Bethel Academy's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Evergreen Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-3.

Bethel Academy and Takoma Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Evergreen Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against New Hope Academy Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Evergreen Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.6 points per game this season.
