Baseball Recap: Payson's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Payson's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Mountain View Bruins by a score of 7-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Lions as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Maddux DeGraffenried made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Payson is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise. DeGraffenried was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blane Christensen, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Brigzen Houser was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.

Payson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View only posted a batting average of .250.

Payson's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-8. As for Mountain View, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Payson will have a chance to go back-to-back against Mountain View: the pair will be back at it again later today.
