Preview: Cottondale Hornets vs. Vernon Yellowjackets
The Cottondale Hornets will be playing at home against the Vernon Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Cottondale can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They really took it to Pataula Charter Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 44-6 victory at home. The victory was familiar territory for Cottondale who now have four in a row.
Cottondale got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jocarian Garrett out in front who rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Garrett hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games. Cameron Odom was another key contributor, rushing for 70 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Vernon fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against Jefferson County by a score of 43-30 on Friday.
Ryan Scott went supernova for Vernon, rushing for 196 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Caden Hammack made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Their wins bumped Cottondale to 5-3 and Vernon to 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Cottondale against Vernon in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 64-22 victory. Will Cottondale repeat their success, or does Vernon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
