Softball Recap: Brighton Gets the Win

Brighton had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Craigmont on Wednesday. Brighton never let Craigmont get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Cardinals not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 14th.

Kaitlyn Chapman made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-1. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last 13 matches.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braeley Lopez, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Braelynn Scott, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Brighton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .917. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Brighton back to even at 7-7-2. As for Craigmont, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Coming up, Brighton will venture away from home to take on Covington at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Covington will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Brighton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Craigmont, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against White Station at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
