Football Recap: Rio Mesa's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

After soaring to 59 points the game before, Rio Mesa was a bit more limited in their match on Saturday. The contest between the Spartans and the Camarillo Scorpions didn't end well, with the Spartans falling 26-8. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Scorpions are ranked third).

Even if they lost, Rio Mesa's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Anika Bittner. Bittner is crushing it when it comes to sacks: she's posted at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Rio Mesa fell to 4-1. As for Camarillo, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Rio Mesa didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 18-14 defeat against Agoura on the 23rd. As for Camarillo, they have also already played their next matchup, a 13-12 victory against Oxnard on the 23rd.
