Basketball Recap: Churchill Comes Up Short

Churchill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a blow against the Whitman Vikings, falling 71-43. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while the Vikings are ranked 47th).

Hayden Walsh was nothing short of spectacular for Whitman: he went 7 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points. That's the most points Walsh has posted since back in December of 2023. Max Williams was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Churchill's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Whitman, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Churchill won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Magruder at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Magruder has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Whitman, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll face off against Quince Orchard at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
