Basketball Recap: Grand Junction Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Will Weirath and Grant Lewis

If Grand Junction was feeling good fresh off their 61-17 takedown of Moffat County last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Grand Junction Tigers took a 53-36 bruising from the Fruita Monument Wildcats on Friday. The Tigers have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Grand Junction's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Grant Lewis, who posted 12 points, and Will Weirath, who earned nine points.

Leading Fruita Monument to victory were Jhett Wells and Daniel Thomason. Wells went 6 of 7 on his way to 15 points in addition to five boards and three blocks, while Thomason went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points. The matchup was Wells' ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Tuning, who put up eight points.

Grand Junction's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5. As for Fruita Monument, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grand Junction will head out to square off against Palisade at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grand Junction is facing Palisade at the right time seeing as Palisade is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Fruita Monument, they will challenge Grand Junction Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grand Junction Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.
