Basketball Recap: Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech Takes a Loss

Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech fought the good fight in their overtime game against Southampton on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 41-40 to the Southampton Indians. The Dragons haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Fern Powell, who posted 13 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Powell is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Chapman, who had nine points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Southampton, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech and Brunswick will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played. Brunswick has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Southampton, they will take on Surry County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southampton is facing Surry County at the right time seeing as Surry County is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
