Preview: Chapel Hill Tigers vs. Northern Durham Knights
Two dominant in David Mirikwe and Mykel Crutchfield are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Chapel Hill Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northern Durham Knights at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Chapel Hill beat Riverside-Durham 51-46. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Chapel Hill.
Chapel Hill can attribute much of their success to Franklin Johnson, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Johnson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Andrew Herring, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Northern Durham waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 victory over Hillside. 48 seems to be a good number for Northern Durham as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Chapel Hill's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Northern Durham, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Chapel Hill took their victory against Northern Durham when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 69-43. Does Chapel Hill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northern Durham turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
