Softball Game Preview: Cleveland Warriors vs. Newberg Tigers

Cleveland is 0-3 against Newberg since March of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Warriors will face off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Cleveland has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cleveland managed to slip by McDaniel the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Warriors lost 15-2 to the Mountain Lions on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Warriors couldn't push the score so high this time.

Clara Waldron made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Newberg, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand North Salem a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

McKenna Proffitt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Proffitt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Evalyn Campos and Delainy Willard did most of the damage at the plate: Campos went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Willard scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Brooklyn Williams was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Newberg now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Cleveland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Cleveland might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Newberg in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
