Maiya Shelor and Braegen Shelor secure win for Minneola

The Minneola Wildcats had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Ashland on Friday and snuck past 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Minneola has posted yet this season.

Leading Minneola to victory were Maiya Shelor and Braegen Shelor. Shelor dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Shelor dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Shelor has scored at least a third of Minneola's points. Rhianne Swonger was another key contributor, scoring five points.

Despite the loss, Ashland still got an impressive performance from Biannca Ceniceros, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ceniceros has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaya Milburn, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Minneola's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-6. As for Ashland, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Minneola will take on Hodgeman County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hodgeman County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Minneola in Kansas (Hodgeman County is ranked 36th, while Minneola is ranked 232nd). As for Ashland, they will head out on the road to challenge Kiowa County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
